Because sometimes you need reminded that you are loved…

Whitney quote 2

My kids know I love them. I’ve told them a million times, it seems. And when I’m not telling them, I pray that I’m consistently showing them by my actions.

But there’s this one boy who sometimes doubts.  Not for lack of being shown love, but for lack of letting himself truly know this love to his core.

He hears the same loving words that his siblings hear.  He just needs to hear them over and over again. And he especially needs to hear them when he messes up.  Because he longs for total love and acceptance, no matter what his performance lacks.

Don’t we all?

The thing is, I’ll never love my kids perfectly. Only God can do that. But I can love them the best by pointing them to the One who loves them more wholly and completely than I ever could. I love them best when I point them to Jesus.

For Mother’s Day, I received a pile of homemade cards just like many of you. As I sifted through, read and cherished each one, I smiled at the standard jokes, stick figures, comic strips, pop-up hearts and words of affection. Worth more than any store-bought gift for sure.

But one stood out.

This boy had heard me. He had heard me after all.

“Thank you for all of the times you’ve helped me when I’m sick, for all of the times when I’ve struggled, for all of the times when I’ve needed help from God. You always cheer me up. You always love me…”

Sometimes we just need to hear it, you know?  Sometimes we doubt, and we need to hear it over and over and over again.

You are loved.

Yes, you.

And not because of what you’ve done or haven’t done.

You’re loved by a perfect God who loves perfectly because He is love.

Sure, there’s training, refining and even sometimes necessary discipline mixed in. Just like with my own children, that’s part of loving well. But we can search the whole world over, and we will never be whole until we know and accept the love of the Savior.

Early Mother’s Day morning, my gift from my husband was a porch to myself with the Word in my hands. Oh, that man knows what I need.  While small noses and fingerprints and smiles pressed against the windows, I read of God’s love for me. Because I needed to hear it again.

Can I be honest with you? I used to feel guilty for soaking in God’s love for me. It felt so undeserving… so me-centered… so unbelievable and so very unattainable.

But I finally realized that’s why Jesus came.

His life wrote a love story for you and for me, and He came to rescue us with His love, so that in turn we can pour His love out to others.

Whitney quote 1

I opened that porch door with renewed excitement and determination to love my family well. Not because I love perfectly, but because of the reminder that the One who does lives in me.

Do you need reminded of God’s love for you today?

Maybe you’re someone who needs to accept His love for the very first time…

Or would you say that you’re secure in His love, but need filled up again so that you can love others well?

Then our Summer Book Club/Bible study is for you.

You are loved.

Wherever you are in your walk with God, come let the magnitude of that truth soak in as we study God’s Word together…

At His feet,

*Let’s talk: Are you joining us for our Summer Session?  How can we pray for you as we prepare our hearts and ask God to help us lead you well? We’d love to hear from you in the comments section below!

  1. Hi all – prayer needed for walking forward from a very long, nasty 3 year divorce proceeding (my godly husband divorced me). Our children (23, 21, 19, 17 and 13) and I have been through deep water and rivers and fire and flame – and though we know the Lord is with us, there just seems to be a barrier. Need wisdom, grace and just a fresh filling of His Spirit. Also prayer for my husband, that the Lord can soften his heart and turn him from all the distractions that led him away and for what to do next re homeschooling. Thank you Ladies. See you at the study.

    • I am deeply sorry for this. I will be praying for you.

    • Father,
I pray that each member of Tonya’s family would know your much You love them, and that that love would bring healing and wisdom and encouragement to each of them. Lord, help Tonya to know how to take the next step before her. Give her favor. Give her peace. Fill her with your joy in the midst of it all.
      In Jesus’ name. Amen

  2. Belinda says:

Oh, Whitney, what a beautifully written post!! It so spoke to my heart – I’ve been realising over the last few weeks how important it is to SHOW my love to my son and my husband, to have God’s Father-love overflow from me and onto the people He’s placed in my life. Thank you for this reminder!

    • Belinda,

I’m with you, this post is a beautiful reminder that we need to SHOW our love to others. I need to take step back from the busyness and focus on the people God has places so lovingly in my life.

  3. I would like to ask if you would pray for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and going to be having surgery on the day that your program starts May 19th. I would like pray that I would be able to keep up on my study with GMG. I have bought the book and am really excited about it. I’m even thinking about starting it early. I hope and my prayer is that I would learn to love my children more and those that around me through this study. Thank you so much.

    • Melissa says:

I will pray for you, Debbe. I am a 9 years breast cancer survivor. I pray that God will hold you in His loving arms and give you peace and comfort as you go through this journey. I pray for your family, doctors , nurses and caregivers, also. God Bless You.

      • sheila miller says:

Debbie, I am reading this several days after your surgery. I hope you have now regained strength and are recovering. What a wonderful gift you are giving yourself by making this wonderful Bible study part of your recovery!!! Nothing could be better. We will be praying for you.

    • Praying for healing of your breast cancer. I was diagnosed in November and have had chemo, and am now recovering from a very “complete” surgery. My surgery was on Good Friday, and my husband and I declared in faith “it is finished! ” and a week later the pathology report revealed exactly that. God has demonstrated His love and mercy amidst my breast cancer journey more than ever before. We asked for peace and confidence and that is exactly what we were granted. Debbie…you are on heart and will be in my prayers! His word declares: “ His stripes we are healed.” You are in the BEST possible hands!

      • I am praying for you Debbie. God is with you. My grandmother survived 38 years of being a breast cancer survivor.

    • KAREN MCCURRY says:

Debbie, I will be praying for you. I am a 3 year breast cancer survivor. You got this girlfriend. Praying that the Lord gives you the strength and courage to face your upcoming surgery and any other treatments you may have. Calm her fears Lord. Give her that peace that passes all understanding.

    • Debbe,
Lifting you up in prayer and I’m looking forward to seeing you join us in June. Praying God’s strength, comfort and healing. Praying for the doctors, nurses and technicians.

  4. I am so excited about your book. I have always gone to church weekly, prayed for things, been involved in church, etc. but have never really had a relationship with God that I know know I need and I have after the Women. Living Well book. Since then I crave my time with God every day (and GMG), I am so excited about this book and can’t wait to learn more. I too, like Belinda, need prayers to really focus on loving like God, being an example to my husband and kids about what a real relationship with Him is like and to show kindness and love all the time to them like God does for us.

    • Alice!

Praise for craving time with God! Lifting you up in prayer for focus on loving like God, being an example to your husband and kids. Oh such blessing to show them what godly kindness and love looks like, feels like.

  5. My prayers are with everyone here today. Jesus said “He will swallow up death in victory; and the [He] will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth…” Be strong everyone.
Thank you Ms. Whitney for sharing a bit of your inside joy with me today. I look forward to the study.

    Peace to all.

    • Elissa,

Thank you your prayers for with all of us !!!
So glad you are joining us for the study!

  8. Dear Angela
I received a very exciting email from saying that I had won a copy of You Are Loved!!! I was delighted :-) Unfortunately, because I live in the UK I wasn’t able to download it :-( I had a live chat with a very helpful man from and unfortunately he couldn’t solve this. Just thought I’d let you know as perhaps the book can be gifted to someone else. Really looking forward to the new study though.
    Blessings xx

    • Oooh … though it’s a shame Mary can’t access the freebie (I bet it’s a copyright issue – we face that in mainland Europe all the time), wouldn’t it be good if Mary’s copy could be gifted to Donna?! Just a thought xx

    • Hi Mary! I’m so sorry that you weren’t able to receive your copy! I’ve brought your comment to Angela’s attention. Thanks for letting us know!

    • Mary, Angela would like you to forward the email from Amazon to her (, as well as your mailing address. She would like to mail you a copy instead!

  9. I need help
I just don’t know how to give myself back to God
I’ve had a long season away that started this past fall with my teen daughter’s suicide attempt, her diagnosis with depression/anxiety and admitting self harming behavior (an ongoing and overwhelming situation for her)- it has all taken over/consumed me and I allowed a great distance to grow between myself and my Jesus and I can’t get out of the funk.
Along with losing my relationship with Jesus, I realize I have lost myself as well. I just recently started therapy with my daughter as part of her treatment and now realize that I too am dealing with depression and anxiety. And realize that there is nothing left inside me- the joy I use to feel is gone replaced by irritability and overwhelming negative self talk and stress. I feel so empty and hardly existing.
I don’t have friends and my husband is the same ocean but a different boat.
Have not been to my church home for many months and not sure how to get back there either, not sure I’m ready.
    Would you pray for me?

    with thanks and love

    • Amy you have taken the first step back to the Lord’s arms by writing this post. And the journey back will be lots of little steps, daily. If you would like a friend to take those daily steps with you, please reach out to me and I will be happy to take that walk with you. Sending you a cyber hug to start your week and prayers for your family.

    • Jessica says:

I can relate to much of what you wrote. I have been battling depression for the past 2 years or so, and you just described what it feels like perfectly.

I am praying for you! Specifically that God will be your place of safety during this storm, and that He will hold you close and carry you through this rough season. May His love, grace, wisdom, peace and strength fill your heart, soul and mind daily!

I would like to share a link to a page with a list of Bible verses about God and His love for us – some of these verses have been such a blessing and encouragement to me when I’ve been down!

    • Amy,
Thank you for sharing your heart, reaching out! That is the first step.
Maybe the therapy you recently started with your daughter will help you be able to express your feelings too. Maybe it will help you reach out to your church – do they have a group for members who are struggling?

Lifting you up in prayer for comfort and peace.

  10. I am excited about participating in this summer online study. I am encouraging my friends to join me in the online study as well as meeting in person. We will meet, face to face, three times during the course of the study to share what we are learning and encourage one another. I would like prayer that my friends will be able to join me in this study and that we can soak in the message that, “You are Loved” to the core of our beings.

    • Jane,
Wonderful, glad you are joining us! You can fill out the leaders form/group registration and join our leaders group. The form will be available May 19th… under the Groups tab – ‘Be a Leader’ on the menu tab here on the blog.
Praying for your friends to be able to join you and soak up the message!

  11. Mary Aguirre says:

Please pray for my mother who is having major surgery due to colon cancer. I look forward to the summer book study because I feel I need to be reminded how much He loves me. We have been experiencing extreme financial problems, our only vehicle broke down in November and have not been able to replace it. My husband was layed off and feels desperate and depressed because in is new job wages is not enough for basic living expenses. In the midst of it all there have been blessings. And I desire to honor, trust and believe in Him even though my circumstances are frustrating and just plain depressing. All this just to say thank you for the opportunity to hear from God through the book club. I plan on going through it with a friend.

    • Heavenly Father,
I thank you that you are our Healer. I pray that you would touch Mary’s mother and help her to overcome this cancer. May the surgery and her treatment be a huge success. I also ask that you open doors for Mary’s husband to use his gifts and make a steady income for his family. I ask that you would help them with their vehicle — provide the funds that they need to repair it. Lord, bless this family. They are looking to you and love you. I pray that You would draw them closer together and that they would know how much You love them.
      In Jesus’s name. Amen

      Hugs to you, Mary!
      Lyli (GMG Leader Encourager)

  12. I too am looking forward to reading the book ‘You Are Loved’. My husband of 20 years just 6 weeks ago told me he hadn’t loved me in years and was leaving me when I confronted him about an affair he was having. I was shocked because I didn’t even know he didn’t love me. He left me for a woman with a lot of money and now I really have to rely on my Lord to take care of my needs. He walked out on Mothers’s day. The Lord has helped me come through about every emotion you can think of and how wonderful it is to know that He truly loves me. He is a mighty Savior! He is my husband. I am looking forward to the Bible study.

  13. Hello:

This is beautifull and exacly what i was needing. Als i would like t know what i could do to start receiving email again, for some reason i just stop receiving them back in april 14, 2014 was my last email and i really miss them. I have check my spam folder but they arent there and have try to subcribe again but it tells me that i am subscribe so i really dont know what to do.

    Please help,

    • Fam,
If you are using gmail, please check your promotions tab, they sometimes end up there. Also if you have an older email, you can unsubscribe and resubscribe to the blog that way. If the email ended up in the spam folder and it was emptied – then your mailer is filtering the emails out and we can’t do nothing about that. I pray it is simple fix. ~Martha

  14. Several ladies in my church and myself are going to do this study and meet weekly to share our thoughts and pray together. Do you have other recommendation for our group time.?

  15. Yvonne Olson says:

Hi There, I am loving this study. I am also printing it week by week and sending to a friend of my daughter’s who has had many struggles and is now in jail. I’m praying for her and praying this study ministers to her as I share with her that she is loved.
